Cars for 2006
Audi
Audi join the big off roader scene with their Q7
in January 2006. Given the company's reputation for
producing excellent four wheel drive vehicles the new Q7 could
have something new to offer. It looks pretty good, though
there's plenty of competition out there already from the Porsche
Cayenne and VW Touareg which are based on the same platform as the
Audi, and others such as highly acclaimed the BMW X5.
Mazda
The four cylinder 2.3 litre engine from the
Mazda 6 range will appear in the Mazda 3 for the first time.
Producing over 250 bhp, the engine transplant, combined with
a 6 speed gearbox, will give the Mazda 3 sport a blistering 0-60
time.
At the Detroit auto show, Mazda revealed a new
4x4 concept which will be known as the Mazda MX-Crossport or else
the CX-7. The baby 4x4 may be released in 2006, or possibly
the following year depending on how Mazda assess the demand for
the new car.
Toyota
Yet another nre Corolla is expected in
2006. From the front the car looks similar to the current
model, but the changes at the rear are significant. The new
car will be the 9th version of Toyota's ever popular medium
hatch.
There are rumours that one version of the new
car will be a Hybrid featuring the technology currently used to
power
Volkswagen
Volkswagen Fox - February 2006. Brazilian
built city mini to compete with Toyota Aygo, Citroen C1 etc.
As VW's small cars get bigger and bigger with each new release,
new models have to be developed to fill the gap at the smaller end
of the market. Expected to carry a price tag of less than
£6,500 the Fox may have some work to do to compete with the
increasing number of cars in this sector, but strong VW residuals
may give it the edge. The Fox is expected to be powered by
VW's 54bhp 1.2 litre petrol engine, and possibly also the 1.4
litre TDI Diesel engine which produces 73bhp. Volvo
A new C70 convertible based on the S40 saloon
will go on sale in spring 2006. The new car may be revealed
at the Frankfurt Motor show this September (2005).
